FRANK HORVAT: 1999: A Daily Report

£95.00

2 copies of the special slipcased collector's edition of 250 copies are still available.

Every single day throughout 1999, the last year of the last millennium, Frank Horvat photographed – working on this daily report of everyday life, his personal diary of the last year of the century. The challenge was to produce at least one image of substance each day. But beyond this, as a committed European, he also wished to include images from all fifteen countries which were then members of the European Union. Such a schedule would be punishing for anyone but that a man, then in his seventies – one of the established great photographers of the twentieth century – should have felt such an inner need, and had such determination, to record his world is impressive. The result is a fascinating and revealing panorama of one man’s vision – a self-portrait in a way – but also a sweeping vista of a continent nurtured by centuries of strong tradition, with a powerful sense of nationality and individuality as it faced the inevitable challenges and changes that the new millennium would bring.
